Finnish startup Donut Lab has announced the results of an independent test conducted by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, showcasing the impressive charging capabilities of its solid-state battery. The test revealed that Donut Lab’s battery can charge from 0 to 80 percent in approximately 9.5 minutes while retaining full capacity. In some instances, the battery achieved the same charge level in around 4.5 minutes while maintaining 99 percent capacity.
Traditional lithium-ion batteries, widely used in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, face challenges such as slow charging rates, temperature sensitivity, and safety concerns due to flammable components. In contrast, solid-state batteries like Donut Lab’s offer faster charging speeds, increased energy density, and improved safety features. The dry conductive material used in solid-state batteries eliminates the risk of thermal runaway and enhances overall performance.
Donut Lab’s successful test results mark a significant milestone in the battery technology landscape, potentially paving the way for more efficient and safer energy storage solutions in electric vehicles and beyond.
