Amazon has announced new enhancements for its Ring smart doorbells, introducing features such as fire alerts, an app integration platform, and a suite of advanced Ring Sensors that offer a range of monitoring capabilities.
The latest Ring Sensors are designed to detect various events, including motion, openings, glass breakage, smoke, carbon monoxide levels, leaks, temperature changes, and air quality. Additionally, users can now manage connected lighting and appliances through these sensors within their smart home network.
In addition to the sensor updates, Amazon is launching an app integration platform within the Ring app, initially available in the U.S. This will enable users to access third-party apps for expanded functionality with Ring cameras. While specific app details were not disclosed, Amazon mentioned a focus on applications catering to small business operations and household needs.
To address the rise in fire incidents, Amazon has collaborated with the fire monitoring app, Watch Duty, to provide real-time updates and early warnings through the Ring app’s Neighbors section. Users can also share live feeds from their Ring cameras to enhance community awareness.
Furthermore, the new Ring devices support Amazon’s Sidewalk shared network feature, facilitating a mesh network between Echo and Ring devices by utilizing a portion of the user’s bandwidth. This ensures connectivity even when devices are out of Wi-Fi range.
Amazon is also integrating AI capabilities into Ring cameras with ‘AI Unusual Event Alerts,’ enabling the system to learn property patterns and notify users of any anomalies. Subscribers to Amazon’s Virtual Security Guard services can automate responses based on these alerts, enhancing overall security measures.
