Amazon has extended the reach of its healthcare AI assistant, Health AI, to its website and app, as reported by TechCrunch. Initially exclusive to the One Medical app following Amazon’s acquisition of the healthcare company, Health AI now offers a range of services, including answering health-related queries, explaining health records, managing prescription renewals, and booking appointments.
Users, regardless of their Prime subscription status or membership with One Medical, can now access this assistant. Amazon emphasizes that Health AI not only provides general health information but also serves as a personalized assistant, offering tailored guidance and facilitating connections with healthcare professionals and treatments.
While the convenience of Health AI is evident, there are concerns about data privacy. Researchers caution against sharing personal health information with AI, highlighting potential risks associated with companies utilizing user conversations for training purposes. Amazon assures users that Health AI models are trained on anonymized patterns to enhance responses while maintaining patient privacy. Additionally, all interactions with Health AI adhere to HIPAA regulations and are safeguarded through encryption and strict access controls, though specific encryption details have not been disclosed.
With user consent, Health AI accesses health data through the Health Information Exchange, a secure system for sharing patient medical information.
