Amazon has unveiled a new AI-powered feature in its Kindle app designed to provide readers with spoiler-free answers to questions about the books they are reading. Called ‘Ask this Book,’ the feature acts as an in-book assistant capable of responding to queries related to plot details, character relationships, and thematic elements without revealing information beyond the reader’s current progress.
The AI-powered assistant functions as an in-book chatbot, accessible through the book menu or by selecting specific passages. According to Amazon, the answers generated by the AI are non-shareable and non-copyable, ensuring a personalized experience for readers who have purchased or rented the book. Notably, authors and publishers do not have the option to opt out of this feature.
The dedicated chatbot interface enhances the interactive reading experience for users. The feature, initially announced in September, is currently available for thousands of English-language books on iOS devices in the US. Amazon plans to expand the availability of ‘Ask this Book’ to Kindle devices and the Android app next year, with potential future expansions to other regions and languages.
