Amazon Prime Video has decided to discontinue its AI-powered video recap feature after viewers raised concerns about inaccuracies in the summaries. The platform had recently introduced Video Recaps as a tool to provide quick summaries of shows, but following feedback, the feature has been removed from select series, including Fallout, The Rig, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Upload, and Bosch.
The AI-driven recap function was designed to leverage artificial intelligence to analyze key plot points from episodes and condense them into concise videos, featuring an AI voiceover alongside clips from the respective series. However, in the case of the Fallout series, viewers noted significant errors in the recap. For instance, the AI narrator incorrectly placed one character’s flashback in ‘1950s America’ instead of the correct setting in the year 2077, as pointed out by Games Radar. Additionally, the recap oversimplified a crucial decision point in the story, providing a misleading account of the character dynamics.
Amazon’s initial plan was to display these AI-generated recaps on a series’ detail page when users moved to the next season of a supported show. Nevertheless, following the discontinuation, these recaps are no longer available on the platform. The Verge has reached out to Amazon Prime Video for further insights, but no response has been received as of now.
