Apple’s iPhone shipments in India reached a record 14 million units in 2025, despite the overall smartphone market remaining relatively flat at around 152-153 million devices, according to exclusive market data shared with TechCrunch. Apple’s market share in India surged to a record 9% for the year, up from 7% in 2024, as reported by Counterpoint Research. This marks the iPhone’s most successful year in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.
The growth was attributed to Apple’s product lineup, increasing consumer demand, and expanded sales channels, noted Tarun Pathak, director for devices and ecosystems at Counterpoint Research.
Apple has been bolstering its presence in India by enhancing local manufacturing and expanding retail operations. The recent opening of its fifth Apple Store in Noida underscores the company’s commitment to growth in the region, following a retail expansion initiative that commenced in 2023.
Additionally, Apple is focusing on services in India, introducing the Apple Creator Studio subscription bundle this month, featuring creative apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro at a discounted price of ₹399 a month ($4.35) compared to the U.S. pricing of $12.99. This move highlights Apple’s strategy to tailor pricing to enhance its penetration in the Indian market.
Apple’s success in India’s stagnant smartphone market showcases the brand’s ability to thrive amidst industry challenges, positioning itself for continued growth and market expansion.
