DoorDash has unveiled a new ‘Tasks’ app designed to compensate delivery couriers for completing assignments that contribute to enhancing AI and robotic technologies. Couriers can earn money by recording videos of daily tasks or speaking in different languages, activities aimed at advancing AI systems.
The recorded data aids AI and robotic systems in comprehending real-world scenarios, with payment amounts displayed upfront and based on the task’s complexity and effort required, as stated by the company.
Bloomberg reports that the video and audio content submitted by couriers will be utilized to refine both DoorDash’s proprietary AI models and those created by its partners in various industries such as retail, insurance, hospitality, and technology.
One task involves filming hands washing dishes with a body camera, showcasing each clean dish for a few seconds before proceeding to the next, providing a practical example of the assignments offered.
Besides DoorDash, other companies like Uber have also leveraged their workforce to enhance AI models. Uber introduced opportunities for drivers to earn additional income by completing tasks like uploading photos to support AI model training.
In addition to the ‘Tasks’ app, DoorDash will list digital assignments on the Dasher app, including tasks like photographing restaurant menus or hotel entrances to aid delivery drivers. The app also integrates DoorDash’s collaboration with Waymo, where couriers are compensated for closing self-driving car doors.
