Google is rolling out a new update for Pixel phones that introduces notification summaries. This feature, which follows a similar implementation by Apple, will initially focus on chat conversations, aiming to provide more context and avoid the challenges encountered by Apple’s approach.
According to Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman, the notification summaries will initially concentrate on longer chat conversations, with plans to expand the feature to automatically organize and mute less critical notifications in the future. This aligns with Google’s goal of addressing the issues faced by Apple’s implementation.
In addition to the notification summaries, Google is also expanding its scam detection functionality in messages to Pixel 6 devices and newer models, including support for third-party chat apps like Telegram and Discord. Users will now receive a ‘likely scam’ badge within the notification, along with a cautionary system pop-up upon interaction. Furthermore, Google is extending scam detection for calls to Pixel 9 owners in the UK, Ireland, and India.
