Google Maps is expanding its navigation capabilities in India with the introduction of Gemini-powered features and enhanced safety alerts. Following its launch in the U.S., Google’s AI integration, Gemini, offers hands-free assistance and contextual suggestions tailored for Indian users.
Miriam Daniel, Google Maps’ vice president, highlighted the importance of localizing the service for the Indian market, considering language nuances and user behaviors. Gemini will support nine Indian languages and provide customized route information.
Additionally, Indian drivers will benefit from visual and audio alerts for accident-prone areas, a feature developed in collaboration with local authorities. This enhancement aims to improve road safety and navigation accuracy in cities like Gurugram, Hyderabad’s Cyberabad region, Chandigarh, and Faridabad.
The integration of Gemini and safety alerts underscores Google’s commitment to providing comprehensive and user-centric mapping solutions in response to safety concerns and the need for more precise route information in India.
