Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has announced a temporary halt to its international expansion of the Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, citing overwhelming demand and limited inventory. The company had initially intended to introduce the glasses in France, Italy, Canada, and the U.K. early this year.
Following the glasses’ launch last fall, Meta experienced a surge in interest, leading to extensive product waitlists stretching into 2026. Consequently, the company decided to postpone its global availability plans to address the current demand-supply gap.
While prioritizing fulfilling U.S. orders, Meta is taking this opportunity to reassess its strategy for international distribution.
These smart glasses, controlled by the Meta Neural Band wristband that detects hand gestures, were unveiled in September. Recent updates showcased at CES include a new teleprompter feature for delivering speeches on the go and the ability to write messages by finger movements transcribed into digital text while wearing the Meta Neural Band.
Additionally, Meta will expand the glasses’ pedestrian navigation feature to cities like Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, and Salt Lake City.
