OpenAI has officially rolled out group chat functionality in ChatGPT to users worldwide, following a successful pilot in select regions. This expansion, available across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, transforms ChatGPT into a collaborative space where up to 20 participants can engage with each other and the AI simultaneously.
Users can now leverage group chats for various purposes such as coordinating trips, co-writing documents, resolving discussions, or conducting research collectively. ChatGPT stands ready to assist by aiding in searches, providing summaries, and comparing different options during these group interactions.
Initiating a group chat is straightforward – users can add participants by tapping the people icon and inviting them directly or through a shared link. Each participant is required to set up a brief profile with their name, username, and photo.
Notably, adding a new member to an existing chat creates a separate conversation without altering the original thread. OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT is adept at discerning when to participate in discussions and when to remain silent. Users can invoke ChatGPT’s attention by tagging it in messages, and the AI can also react with emojis and refer to profile pictures.
