OpenAI has announced the latest iteration of its ChatGPT model – GPT-5.1. The new release aims to enhance user experience by offering two distinct models: GPT-5.1 Instant and GPT-5.1 Thinking.
GPT-5.1 Instant is described as having improved warmth, intelligence, and task-following abilities, while GPT-5.1 Thinking excels in clarity, speed for simple tasks, and persistence for complex queries. Both models are set to enrich interactions for ChatGPT users, with auto-matching features optimizing query responses.
Additionally, OpenAI is expanding its array of personality presets to customize conversational tones, introducing options like Default, Professional, Friendly, Candid, Quirky, Efficient, Nerdy, and Cynical. Users can also look forward to experimenting with new style adjustments directly from settings.
This update follows the initial release of GPT-5, which received some user dissatisfaction, prompting OpenAI to reintroduce GPT-4o. As OpenAI continues to refine its AI offerings, strategic partners like Microsoft are exploring alternative models from competitors like Anthropic.
