Rivian, a key player in the electric vehicle (EV) market, has revealed plans to develop its own AI chips to enable fully autonomous driving capabilities. This strategic move aims to help the company catch up with industry leaders like Tesla in the autonomous vehicle segment.
During a recent “AI and Autonomy” event at Rivian’s Silicon Valley office, the company introduced its proprietary silicon chip designed to power forthcoming autonomous features. These advancements are intended to enable Rivian to offer Level 4 autonomous vehicles to consumers, including integrating lidar sensors into the upcoming R2 models.
Additionally, Rivian unveiled an AI-driven voice assistant and a sophisticated “Large Driving Model,” which leverages extensive datasets to refine driving strategies. The company also announced plans to introduce an Autonomy Plus subscription service, potentially opening up a new revenue stream.
