Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to introduce its own AI assistant in early 2026. This AI assistant will be available in the upcoming models of the R1T truck and R1S SUV, as well as existing EVs in Rivian’s lineup. The AI assistant will enable drivers and passengers to manage climate controls and other infotainment tasks within the vehicle. Additionally, Rivian’s AI assistant will facilitate the integration of third-party apps through an innovative agentic framework developed by the company’s engineers. The first third-party app to be integrated will be Google Calendar, as announced by Rivian recently.
During Rivian’s AI & Autonomy event in Palo Alto, California, the software development team highlighted the capability to incorporate third-party agents, signaling a new era of app integration within cars. The AI Assistant will leverage Google Vertex AI and Gemini for enhanced data processing, natural conversation interactions, and sophisticated reasoning capabilities.
Rivian’s continuous software advancements and hardware innovations, including the development of a custom 5nm processor in collaboration with Arm and TSMC, underscore the company’s commitment to shaping the future of electric vehicles. This processor will support an advanced hands-free driving assistance system, allowing drivers to eventually engage in eyes-off-the-road experiences.
