Bill Gates-founded nuclear energy company TerraPower has received approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to construct a next-generation reactor in Wyoming. Unlike traditional water-cooled nuclear plants, TerraPower’s Natrium design utilizes liquid sodium to lower costs and operate at reduced pressures. Additionally, the plant incorporates a unique ‘molten salt-based energy storage system’ enabling it to quickly increase power output to 500 megawatts during peak demand.
