YouTube is rolling out new search filters that allow users to specifically search for Shorts or longform videos, aiming to improve the viewing experience by catering to user preferences. The platform’s previous filter-less search often presented a mix of both short and long videos, potentially causing inconvenience for users seeking content in a particular format.
With these updates, users can now easily select between ‘Videos’ for longform content and ‘Shorts’ for shorter videos, streamlining the search process and delivering more tailored results. Additionally, YouTube is discontinuing the ‘Upload Date – Last Hour’ and ‘Sort by Rating’ filters due to functionality issues and user feedback.
The company is enhancing the search experience by introducing alternative ‘Upload Date’ filters such as ‘Today,’ ‘This week,’ ‘This Month,’ and ‘This Year,’ along with a new ‘Popularity’ filter to help users discover trending content effectively. The ‘Popularity’ filter utilizes various relevance signals like view count and watch time to determine a video’s popularity for specific queries.
Furthermore, YouTube has revamped the ‘Sort By’ menu to ‘Prioritize,’ emphasizing a more refined sorting mechanism to maximize user utility.
