Mozilla, the creator of the Firefox browser, has announced a new AI-powered browsing feature called AI Window. This opt-in feature aims to provide users with an ‘intelligent and user-controlled space’ within the browser, featuring an AI assistant and chatbot.
Mozilla emphasizes that the development of AI Window is a collaborative effort, being built transparently with user input. Earlier, in September, the company introduced a ‘shake to summarize’ feature powered by AI on Firefox for iOS, allowing users to generate summaries of open webpages.
In a blog post, Mozilla highlighted its commitment to a different approach with AI, focusing on enhancing the browsing experience rather than creating a closed conversational loop. AI Window will join the existing private and classic browsing modes as one of the three browsing experiences available to Firefox users.
Users will have the flexibility to select the AI model they prefer for the AI Window feature. Mozilla has invited interested users to join a waitlist to receive updates about the AI Window product as it progresses.
