Amazon’s upgraded AI assistant, Alexa Plus, can now generate podcasts on “virtually any topic,” the company announced on Monday, May 18, 2026. Users can provide a topic, review an overview of what the AI hosts plan to discuss, adjust the conversation direction and episode length, and then let Alexa Plus produce the audio episode.
The feature, called “Alexa Podcast,” uses two AI-generated hosts. Amazon shared examples covering the history of the Roman Empire, new music, and World Cup expectations. Users can also request audio lessons — such as content about the Apollo missions — or episodes tied to personal interests like photography.
The AI-generated episodes draw from information sourced across 200 news publications Amazon has partnered with, including Reuters, the Associated Press, the Washington Post, Vox, and Politico.
Once an episode is ready, users receive a notification on their Echo Show device or the Alexa app. The episode can be played directly from that notification or accessed through the Music and More section on the Echo Show, as well as through the Alexa app.
Amazon rolled out Alexa Plus to all US users in February 2026 and has since integrated the assistant into its online marketplace. The podcast generation capability is similar to features already available through Google’s NotebookLM and, more recently, Microsoft Edge.
