Uber has initiated a pilot program for in-app video recording for its drivers in India as a measure to address misconduct issues, as reported by TechCrunch. This technology aims to provide a deterrent against false complaints and ensure safer rides for both drivers and passengers.
Drivers in the Delhi-NCR region have faced instances of misconduct and threats of baseless complaints, emphasizing the need for such a safety feature. The in-app video recording function could serve as crucial evidence in case of disputes, offering a layer of protection for drivers during challenging situations.
The pilot, currently active in 10 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, notifies riders when video recording is in progress. Uber assures that all recordings are securely encrypted, stored locally on the device, and automatically deleted after a week if not shared.
