Google has introduced its new AI Plus subscription plan in India, priced at ₹199 ($2.21) for the first six months. The plan aims to compete with low-cost AI services like OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go by offering enhanced features such as higher limits for Gemini 3 Pro, the image editing model Nano Banana Pro, video generation in the Gemini and Flow apps, expanded access to NotebookLM’s deep research, and 200GB of storage across Photos, Drive, and Gmail. Additionally, subscribers can extend access to family members.
This move comes after Google’s previous AI subscription, AI Pro, was priced at ₹1,950 per month ($21.69) in the country. The tech giant is now adjusting its pricing strategies, as the AI Plus plan was initially rolled out in Indonesia before being introduced in India. In contrast, OpenAI had already launched its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan in India earlier, allowing users greater limits for messages, image generation, and file uploads.
AI companies are increasingly targeting the vast user base in India by offering freebies and tailored plans. Perplexity teamed up with telco Airtel to provide its Pro plan free for a year to Airtel customers, while OpenAI extended free access to ChatGPT Go for a year. Google also joined forces with Reliance Jio to offer the AI Pro plan at no cost for 18 months to specific carrier plan users.
