Instagram users now have more control over their Reels experience with the introduction of a new tool called ‘Your Algorithm.’ This feature allows users to view and customize the topics that influence their Reels recommendations, making the content more tailored to their interests.
By tapping on an icon in the upper right corner while watching Reels, users can access ‘Your Algorithm’ to see the topics Instagram believes are most relevant to them. These interests are determined based on user activity and AI analysis, providing insights such as preferred categories like creativity, sports, fitness, and more.
Users can choose to share their interest summary on their Stories, similar to Spotify Wrapped results, and can adjust which topics they want to see more or less of. Additionally, users have the option to add new topics that are not initially listed to further personalize their content feed.
This new tool follows in the footsteps of TikTok’s ‘Manage Topics’ feature, allowing users to curate their feed based on preferred topics. While TikTok offers generic categories, Instagram’s tool provides a personalized experience with the ability to include additional topics.
Instagram plans to expand the use of ‘Your Algorithm’ to personalize the Explore feed in the future. The feature is currently available in the U.S. and will be rolled out globally in English soon, offering users enhanced control over their content discovery.
