Reddit has announced the launch of a test for verified profiles, a feature that aims to provide greater clarity for users on the platform. According to The Verge, users who are part of this ‘limited alpha test’ will display a gray checkmark next to their username across various sections of the site, including profiles, communities, feeds, post detail pages, and search results.
The verification process is currently limited to a specific set of public figures and trusted partners, who must opt in, maintain accounts in good standing, and actively engage on the platform to be eligible. It’s important to note that verification does not come with any special privileges, and Reddit does not currently allow users to request verification.
Reddit’s commitment to pseudonymity remains a priority, emphasizing that the verification process is voluntary and opt-in, not a measure of status. The primary goal is to enhance clarity for users and reduce the manual verification workload for moderators. This test phase aims to establish a consistent method for individuals and businesses seeking clear identification on the Reddit platform.
