Retro gaming handheld manufacturer Ayaneo has unveiled its first Android phone, the Pocket Play, which bears a resemblance to the iconic Sony Ericsson Xperia Play from 2011. The device features a screen that slides up to reveal a full set of physical controls, including a D-pad, ABXY buttons, and dual circular touch pads. Additionally, the phone includes twin sets of shoulder buttons at the back, though it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.
While specific details about the Pocket Play’s specifications are currently undisclosed, the phone is expected to launch soon. The Kickstarter campaign page provides limited information, leaving tech enthusiasts eager to learn more about this unique device.
This release follows another Xperia Play homage earlier this year, the Anbernic RG Slide. Aesthetically, the Pocket Play appears sleeker than the RG Slide and aims to serve not only as a gaming device but also as a functional phone. The Pocket Play is anticipated to be priced higher than the RG Slide’s $189, offering a blend of nostalgia and modern functionality.
