Clicks, a company known for its QWERTY keyboard cases for iPhones, has introduced the Clicks Communicator, a device that aims to provide a modern take on the classic Blackberry keyboard experience for smartphone users. Priced at $499, the Communicator features a full QWERTY keyboard, a cellular connection, and customization options with interchangeable back plates.
Unlike many mainstream smartphones, the Communicator includes features such as a headphone jack, a physical mute switch, and expandable storage via microSD. The touch-sensitive keyboard with larger keys is designed to enhance the user experience, providing trackpad functionality as well.
Operating as a standalone device with 5G connectivity and running on Android 16, the Communicator allows users to download various apps. However, the device is intentionally designed to encourage a streamlined experience by focusing on essential apps, catering to those seeking a break from their primary smartphones. The Communicator integrates well within the Android ecosystem, enabling synchronization with apps like Google Messages.
In line with its purpose as a less distracting device, the Communicator features a minimalist launcher using Niagara, organizing apps in a simplistic list format rather than a grid. Additionally, a customizable LED signal key adds a personalized touch for notifications.
