Roblox, the popular online gaming platform, has introduced mandatory age verification for all users globally to access chat features. This move aims to enhance user protection and address concerns over child safety and privacy.
Users are now required to undergo facial verification by allowing access to their camera and following on-screen instructions. The verification process, managed by a third-party vendor, Persona, ensures user privacy by deleting images and videos post-verification.
Individuals aged 13 and above also have the option to verify their age through ID verification. While age checks remain optional, they are necessary for accessing communication features within Roblox, such as chat functionalities.
In cases where the age-check process inaccurately determines a user’s age, individuals can appeal the decision and verify their age through alternative methods, including ID verification or parental controls.
Following successful age verification, users gain access to age-based chat, limiting communication to peers within the same age group. With six distinct age categories, users can engage in chats with those in adjacent age groups, fostering a safer online environment.
