Spotify is expanding its social features with the introduction of a new Messages function that allows users to view their friends’ real-time listening activity and initiate collaborative listening sessions called Jams.
To access this feature, users need to enable the ‘listening activity’ setting in their Privacy & Social section. Once activated, users can see their friends’ current tracks, play songs, save them, react with emojis, and even start a Jam session by sending a request to their friends.
In a Jam session, Premium users can create a shared queue where both participants can add tracks and enjoy music together. This feature aims to deepen the social experience within the Spotify app and increase user engagement.
The Listening Activity and Request to Jam features are rolling out to iOS and Android apps in select markets, with wider availability expected by early February. While Listening Activity is accessible to all users with Messages, Free users can join Jam sessions initiated by Premium users.
Spotify’s move to integrate real-time sharing and collaborative listening aligns with its strategy to foster a more social platform environment. By keeping interactions within the app and offering unique social features, Spotify aims to enhance user satisfaction and attract a broader audience.
