Spotify has introduced a new feature called ‘About the Song,’ aimed at providing users with contextual information and trivia about the tracks they enjoy. This feature, initially launched in beta, is accessible to premium users within the Now Playing view, offering a deeper understanding of the music being played.
The information presented in ‘About the Song’ is sourced from third-party providers and delivered in bite-sized, swipeable cards. Powered by machine learning, Spotify ensures transparency by citing the origins of the data on these cards. While the feature is currently limited to select tracks, the company has indicated plans to expand its coverage in the future.
This move by Spotify underscores its commitment to enhancing the music streaming platform with value-added services. Previously introduced offerings like expanded Song Credits and SongDNA have already provided users with insights into the creative minds behind the music they love, establishing meaningful connections within the music ecosystem.
Spotify’s acquisition of WhoSampled in late 2025 has further strengthened its ability to enrich features like SongDNA and ‘About the Song,’ deepening the overall music discovery experience for its audience.
