Designer Kate Barton is set to debut her latest collection at New York Fashion Week in a collaboration with Fiducia AI and IBM. The partnership introduces a multilingual AI agent, powered by IBM Watsonx on IBM Cloud, that enables guests to identify collection pieces and virtually try them on.
Barton’s approach to integrating technology into her designs blends real and surreal elements. She views AI as a means to enhance the presentation of her creations, creating an immersive experience for attendees.
Ganesh Harinath, CEO of Fiducia AI, highlighted the technical details involved in leveraging IBM Watsonx, IBM Cloud, and IBM Cloud Object Storage to execute Barton’s vision. The innovative use of Visual AI technology allows for real-time detection of items from the new collection, offering interactive virtual try-ons in multiple languages through voice and text interfaces.
While AI adoption in the fashion industry remains somewhat discreet, Barton believes that many brands are incorporating AI into their operational processes. However, concerns about potential reputational risks may deter some from showcasing their AI initiatives publicly.
