Chinese automaker BYD has announced a new battery pack, the Blade Battery 2.0, capable of rapid charging that could transform the electric vehicle (EV) industry. The battery system can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, with nearly full charge achieved within about nine minutes. This advancement addresses a key concern around EV charging times, potentially reducing a significant advantage of internal combustion engines.
Even in extreme cold conditions, the Blade Battery 2.0 can charge from 20% to 97% in under 12 minutes, making it a promising solution for quick and efficient EV charging. However, this remarkable charging speed requires BYD’s new Flash Charging EV chargers, capable of delivering 1.5 megawatts of electricity.
BYD’s introduction of this innovative technology aims to enhance its competitive position in the EV market, especially amidst increasing competition from other Chinese automakers and Tesla. As the world’s largest EV manufacturer, BYD’s new battery system could help attract new customers and drive sales in the evolving EV landscape.
