Slack has announced a significant update, introducing over 30 new features to its AI-powered personal agent, Slackbot. This update, the most extensive since Slack’s acquisition by Salesforce in 2021, positions Slackbot as a comprehensive enterprise agent. The new features empower Slackbot to handle tasks like taking meeting notes across various video platforms, operate on users’ desktops beyond the Slack application, execute actions through third-party tools using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and function as a lightweight CRM for small businesses without requiring new installations.
The announcement, made during a keynote event featuring Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, comes shortly after Slackbot’s initial availability to Business+ and Enterprise+ subscribers in January. The feature has seen rapid adoption, with reports indicating substantial time savings for users and significant boosts in productivity, particularly within Salesforce itself.
Slack’s move positions Slackbot as an ‘agentic operating system,’ aligning with the company’s vision to create a unified interface for interactions with AI agents, enterprise applications, and colleagues. This initiative also challenges Microsoft’s Copilot assistant, which is deeply integrated across its productivity suite.
Key Advancements Redefining Slackbot’s Capabilities
The latest features expand Slackbot’s functionalities beyond traditional chatbot roles, bringing it closer to an autonomous digital coworker. Notable additions include AI-Skills, enabling customizable task workflows, and deep research mode for in-depth investigations. Integration with MCP allows Slackbot to interact with external systems and apps, while meeting intelligence and desktop extensions enhance its utility.
