Google’s integration of the ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless protocol with the Pixel 6 Pro in 2021 brought advanced tracking capabilities to its premium devices. However, users of older Pixel models, such as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7, have encountered limitations when trying to leverage UWB for precise tracking of Android-compatible trackers. This feature is exclusively enabled on the Pro models of the Pixel 8 series and newer, as confirmed by Google to Android Authority.
Despite the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro having the necessary hardware to support UWB precise tracking, Google has not implemented this functionality on these older devices. The reason behind this decision remains undisclosed by the company. Notably, Google’s support page specifies that UWB precise finding is restricted to select Android phones, including the Plus and Ultra variants of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series and newer, along with certain Motorola Edge and Razr models.
