Google announced a new Android feature called “Create My Widget” on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, that allows users to build custom home screen widgets using natural language descriptions. The feature is set to launch first on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones this summer.
Users can describe what they want in plain text, and the tool generates a personalized widget accordingly. Examples include a weekly meal prep dashboard that surfaces high-protein recipes, or a stripped-down weather widget showing only wind speed and rain data for cyclists.
The feature is powered by Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, which can pull information from the web and connect with Google apps such as Gmail and Calendar. A user planning a family reunion in Berlin, for instance, could generate a single dashboard that aggregates flight and hotel details, restaurant reservations, and a countdown timer.
Ben Greenwood, director of product management for Android Core Experiences, described the feature during a briefing with reporters: “This is like you asking your personal assistant a question, and having them just bring you the answer on repeat. So think of it as asking Gemini things about the world, things about its knowledge of what’s going on and events, as well as things about your personal data. Those are sort of the two areas that unlock an enormous number of use cases that we’re super excited about.”
Google announced “Create My Widget” alongside a broader rollout called Gemini Intelligence, which also includes advanced autofill, an AI-powered voice dictation feature for Gboard, and additional capabilities. The announcements reflect Google’s push to integrate generative AI more deeply into the Android experience as tech companies work to make customization tools more accessible to everyday users.
