Netflix is expanding its offerings for children’s entertainment with the launch of a new standalone app focused on kids’ games. Named Netflix Playground, this app is designed to provide young users with access to a growing selection of games without any advertisements or in-app purchases.
Targeted at children aged eight and under, Netflix Playground features games based on popular kids’ shows. Initially available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, the app is set for a global release on April 28, accessible on both iOS and Android devices. Notably, Netflix emphasizes that the app can be used offline, making it a convenient entertainment option for situations like long trips or visits to the store.
Some of the titles available on Netflix Playground include “Playtime With Peppa Pig” and a “Sesame Street” game, offering engaging activities for young players. The company aims to allow children to not just watch but actively engage with their favorite characters.
While Netflix had previously shown ambition in the gaming space, the company has adjusted its strategies following underwhelming game performance. This move into kids’ games represents a focused effort to cater to a younger audience and provide interactive experiences alongside its existing content offerings.
