Spotify announced on May 7, 2026, that its AI DJ feature now supports four new languages — French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese — expanding beyond its previous English and Spanish availability.
Each language version comes with a distinct AI DJ persona: Maia, Ben, Alex, and Dani, which Spotify says are designed to suit their respective languages and audiences.
Alongside the language expansion, Spotify is rolling out the AI DJ feature to eight new countries: Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, and Switzerland. The feature is now available in more than 75 countries.
The AI DJ allows users to interact with the feature by requesting songs and receiving AI-generated spoken commentary. Spotify has gradually made the feature more interactive over time. In May 2025, the company updated it to let users chat with the AI DJ to change the mood or genre, and added the ability to prompt it to play specific tracks — functionality similar to that of AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
The original version of the AI DJ was more limited, primarily providing commentary while playing tracks it predicted users would enjoy. The recent updates represent a shift toward a more conversational, request-driven experience.
The AI DJ expansion is part of a broader push by Spotify to integrate more AI-driven features into its app. The company has also added the ability for users to generate custom playlists of songs or podcasts by describing what they want to listen to.
