French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI has secured $830 million in debt financing to establish a data center near Paris. The data center, powered by Nvidia chips, is part of Mistral’s strategy to bolster its AI infrastructure capabilities in Europe. This initiative follows Mistral’s previous $1.4 billion investment in Sweden for similar AI infrastructure expansion efforts, including the establishment of data centers. The company aims to deploy 200 megawatts of compute capacity across Europe by 2027, demonstrating its commitment to fostering AI innovation and autonomy within the region.
Mistral’s CEO, Arthur Mensch, emphasized the importance of scaling infrastructure in Europe to meet the growing demand for customized AI environments from governments, enterprises, and research institutions. By reducing dependence on third-party cloud providers, Mistral aims to empower its clients and drive AI advancements at the core of Europe’s technological landscape.
With a substantial funding track record exceeding €2.8 billion ($3.1 billion) from notable investors, Mistral AI is poised to solidify its position as a key player in the AI infrastructure domain.
